React Native Developer Hourly Rate 2026: Contract Benchmark

Search for React Native developer rates and the first page hands you $53, $55 and $62 per hour. Then you ask an agency and the quote comes back at $130. Nobody is lying to you. Those first three numbers are salaries divided by 2,080 hours, and the fourth is a bill rate — the two are separated by employer taxes, benefits, bench time, recruitment cost and margin.

Salary aggregators dominate this search because React Native is a job title as well as a purchase. If you are hiring rather than job-hunting, almost everything ranking for this query is answering someone else's question.

This benchmark reports what you are invoiced.

TL;DR

  • US senior React Native contractors bill $105–$155/hr through a staffing partner. The published "average" near $55–$62/hr is a salary equivalent, not a bill rate.
  • UK £78–£105/hr for senior, Western Europe €88–€125/hr, Eastern Europe $55–$75/hr, India $35–$50/hr.
  • React Native carries a 5–10% premium over equivalent React web work — mobile release engineering, store submission and device QA are separate skills.
  • The premium sits in native-module capability. A developer who only writes JavaScript against React Native is a mid-level hire regardless of years.
  • Glassdoor puts 90th-percentile React Native earnings above $200,000 annually, which is the clearest signal that the blended averages hide a wide distribution.

Why published React Native rates look low

Figure What it measures Typical US senior
Salary survey (annual ÷ 2,080) Full-time salary as hourly equivalent $53–$62/hr
Contractor pay rate What the contractor receives $70–$110/hr
Agency bill rate What you are invoiced $105–$155/hr
Independent consultant Direct engagement, no agency $120–$200/hr

Salary.com reports the US React Native app developer average at roughly $110,600 a year, about $53/hr. ZipRecruiter puts it near $62/hr. Both are measuring employment, and both are correct for that purpose. Neither tells you what a contract engagement costs, because the employer-side costs they exclude are precisely the costs a staffing partner is absorbing on your behalf.

The practical consequence: budget against $55/hr, receive a $130/hr quote, and conclude you are being overcharged by 2.4×. You are not. You compared an employee's gross wage to a delivered service. This is the same trap we mapped for Java contract rates, and it is worse in React Native because the salary data is unusually plentiful.

React Native contractor rates by region (2026)

Agency bill rates, six-month engagement:

Market Junior (0–3 yrs) Mid (3–6 yrs) Senior (6–10 yrs) Lead / Architect
United States $50–$75/hr $75–$105/hr $105–$155/hr $155–$205/hr
United Kingdom £42–£58/hr £58–£78/hr £78–£105/hr £105–£135/hr
Western Europe (DE, NL, Nordics) €42–€62/hr €62–€88/hr €88–€125/hr €125–€155/hr
Eastern Europe (PL, RO, UA) $28–$38/hr $38–$55/hr $55–$75/hr $75–$100/hr
Latin America (BR, CO, MX) $22–$32/hr $32–$48/hr $48–$72/hr $72–$95/hr
India $16–$24/hr $24–$35/hr $35–$50/hr $50–$70/hr

These sit roughly 5–10% above equivalent React web rates. The premium is not framework difficulty. It is that shipping to two app stores involves release engineering, provisioning profiles, store review, crash triage across hundreds of device-OS combinations, and over-the-air update strategy — none of which a React web developer has had to learn.

What separates a senior from a mid

The CV signal that matters is native module work. React Native's boundary is where JavaScript stops and platform code starts, and most of the hard problems live there.

A genuine senior has:

  • Written or debugged a native module in Swift/Objective-C or Kotlin/Java, and can explain the bridge or the new architecture's JSI.
  • Shipped through App Store review repeatedly, including a rejection they diagnosed and fixed.
  • Handled a version upgrade across a major React Native release with native dependencies.
  • Profiled a performance problem — list virtualisation, bridge traffic, re-render storms — rather than adding useMemo and hoping.

A developer with five years of React Native who has only written JavaScript screens against an existing shell is a mid-level hire. That distinction is worth 30–40% of the rate and is invisible on a CV, which is why the screen matters more than the years.

What moves the rate

  • New architecture experience (Fabric, TurboModules) is currently scarce and commands a premium on any migration work.
  • Existing app rescue bills above greenfield. Inheriting an undocumented codebase with pinned dependencies is harder than starting clean, and the market prices that correctly.
  • Regulated domains — health, finance, anything with SOC 2 or HIPAA in scope — add 15–25%.
  • Native-adjacent features such as Bluetooth, background location or offline-first sync move a role toward the lead band regardless of nominal seniority.

The loaded cost before you compare markets

Rate alone is not cost. Before comparing an India rate to a US one:

Factor Effect
Offshore management overhead 1.4–1.8× the headline rate
Timezone coverage 10–20% premium for committed US-hours overlap
Ramp-up on an existing codebase 2–4 weeks at full rate
Device lab / testing services $100–$500/mo

The timezone line is the one most often left out. An India-based developer overlaps roughly three hours with US Eastern and two with Pacific, and buying reliable coverage of those hours is a real cost rather than a free assumption. The operating model matters more than the number of hours.

How to validate a quoted rate

  1. Ask whether the figure is bill or pay, and what the margin is.
  2. Ask for a native module the developer wrote, and have them walk through it.
  3. Ask about their last App Store rejection — everyone who ships has had one. A developer who claims none has not shipped much.
  4. Benchmark against seniority, not title. "Senior" is free to write in a CV.
  5. Confirm what happens when React Native ships a major version. Upgrade capability is where cheap engagements become expensive.

FAQ

What is the average hourly rate for a React Native developer in 2026?

For a senior contractor billed through a staffing partner, $105–$155/hr in the US and £78–£105/hr in the UK. Published averages near $55/hr are salary equivalents for full-time employees, not contract bill rates.

Why do React Native salary sites show much lower numbers?

They report employment compensation divided by 2,080 hours. Bill rates include employer taxes, benefits, bench time, recruitment and margin — the costs a staffing partner absorbs. Both numbers are accurate for different questions.

Do React Native developers cost more than React web developers?

Yes, roughly 5–10% more at the same seniority, because mobile adds release engineering, store submission, device QA and crash triage. See our React developer rate benchmark for the web comparison.

Is it cheaper to hire React Native developers in India?

The headline rate is 60–70% lower, but budget 1.4–1.8× for management and ramp-up, and price US-hours overlap explicitly rather than assuming it. The saving is real and smaller than the rate card suggests.

What should I test in a React Native technical screen?

Native module capability above everything. Ask the candidate to walk through a module they wrote and explain the bridge or JSI boundary. That single question separates senior engineers from developers who have only written JavaScript screens.

How much does a whole React Native app cost, not just the developer?

Budget bands run from $15,000 for a lean offshore MVP to $300,000+ for enterprise builds. Our React Native app development cost guide breaks it down by complexity and region.
